The Board of Directors of Axiom has been appointed for its significant experience and diverse skill set. These skills include financial, accounting, legal, corporate governance, commercial, operational and management skills.

This experience and skill set, and the dedication of each Director, will enable the Board to:

Engage in prudent financial management
Devise and implement operational and corporate strategic initiatives
Monitor investments on an on-going basis
Analyse investment proposals across industries critically and thoroughly

Ralph Pliner

Independent Non-Executive Chairman

Ralph Pliner was appointed Chairman of the Board of Axiom in July 2005.

Ralph has extensive experience as a corporate and securities lawyer in the mining, resources, oil, gas, utilities and infrastructure industries. From 1983 to the end of 2004, Ralph was an International Partner of the law firm Baker & McKenzie in Sydney, practising as a specialist corporate securities, energy and resources lawyer. Ralph was previously a financial journalist with The Financial Mail in Johannesburg. Over the past 10 years Ralph has conducted the director responsibilities module in the Company Directors Course of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Ralph is a Director of the Australian Subsidiary of Saipem SpA, Herzog Services Australia Pty Ltd, Australian Char Pty Ltd, and was President for 4 years of the NSW branch, as well as a director on the main board of the Australian Mining and Petroleum Association.

Ralph holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws from Witwatersrand University in South Africa and a Master of Laws (First Class Honours) from Cambridge University, UK.



Danny Goldman

Managing Director

Danny Goldman has been with Axiom since May 2005.

Danny is an experienced corporate executive with extensive operational and finance experience. From January 2003 to February 2005, Danny was General Manager of Electrical, Furniture & General Merchandise at Myer Stores Ltd, a division of Coles Myer Limited. Previously, Danny was the Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of Country Road Limited, an ASX listed apparel retailer and wholesaler. Danny has also held various operational, finance and accounting roles in South Africa within Woolworths Holdings Limited and Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants.

Danny is a qualified Chartered Accountant, with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in Accounting from the University of South Africa and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Cape Town.

David Vinson

Technical Director

David Vinson has been with Axiom since May 2005. From June 2002 to May 2005, David served as the General Manager of Vilo Assets Management Pty Ltd, a division of The Victor Smorgon Group. One of David’s primary responsibilities was running the oil recycling business which was the largest collector and processor of used cooking oil in Victoria. Between May 1995 and June 2002, David was the Operations Director for VSP Industries Pty Ltd, a manufacturer of resins and polymers. David was the founder and Managing Director of CUC Australasia Ltd, a previously listed marketing services company.

David holds a Bachelor of Science, Chemical Engineering Degree from Purdue University (1978).




Jerry Adams

Independent Non-Executive Director

Jerry Adams was appointed to the Board of Axiom in July 2005.

Jerry is an experienced corporate executive having held a number of key executive positions in large corporations. He is currently Chairman of Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. From May 2002 to June 2004 Jerry was Managing Director of Vita Life Sciences Ltd. Prior to this, he was Managing Director of Orica Consumer Products, responsible for brands including Dulux, British, Berger, Cabots, Selleys, Poly and Rota Cota and sales in excess of $600m.  Jerry has also held the role of President of Rexam Release, President and CEO of Box USA, and various senior executive roles with Amcor Limited and Kraft Inc.

Jerry graduated with an MBA with Distinction from the Harvard Business School and has a Bachelor of Arts (Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Washington. Jerry is a member of The Australian Institute of Company Directors.



Julian Vear

Independent Non-Executive Director

Julian Vear was appointed to the Board of Axiom in July 2005.

Julian has over 30 years of operational and finance experience in the energy and resources sector. Julian was Finance Director at North Limited, a listed diversified resources company that was taken over by Rio Tinto in 1999. Previously, Julian spent more than 30 years at BP where he worked in numerous operational and finance roles overseas and in Australia, culminating in his role as Executive Director Finance and Chief Financial Officer for all BP Companies operating in Australasia. Julian is a Chartered Accountant and prior to joining BP he was employed by Arthur Andersen in London.

Julian is a former Chairman of the Victorian chapter of the Financial Executives Institute and a Governor and Vice President of the national body, is a former Councillor and Treasurer of the Victorian Chapter of the Australia British Chamber of Commerce and a Trustee of CEDA.

Julian holds an MA (Honours) degree in Natural Science (Chemistry) from Oxford University, England and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.



Myer Herszberg

Independent Non-Executive Director

Myer Herszberg was appointed to the Board of Axiom in October 2005.

Myer co-founded Infomedia Ltd (ASX Code: IFM) and has been a Director there since 1992. Myer has experience with various public company committees including Audit & Risk, Corporate Governance, and Remuneration & Nomination Committees. Myer is the founder of Melbourne’s Denman Audio chain and has extensive experience in consumer electronics importing and retailing. He has diversified investment interests in property, equities and venture capital, and is active in a number of community service organisations.
